Kindred Clubs
The Edinburgh JMCS has ‘kindred club’ arrangements with the following mountaineering clubs, which means that JMCS members have ‘reciprocal rights’ to book these club’s huts, at reduced rates
(see the links below to find out the booking arrangements and the current rates).
Specifically, JMCS members can contact a kindred club hut custodian directly, as individuals, to make a booking without going through the JMCS secretary, or waiting for an official meet of the JMCS.
The Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC)
the SMC has five huts scattered throughout Scotland.
To make a booking see: booking SMC Huts by Kindred Club Members
Ladies Scottish Climbing Club

Making a Kindred club booking
The general process for making Kindred club bookings is as follows.
- Email the relevant hut custodian (find the email address from the club website using the above links)
- CC the JMCS Treasurer into your email to the custodian, using the ‘official’ looking email address: edinburghjmcs.treasurer@gmx.com who will then be able to confirm your JMCS membership.
- The hut custodian will then sort out the booking and either send you a key or a keysafe code.
- The FRCC custodian will send a keysafe code to get access to the hut;
- am not sure what the SMC custodian will do (book early enough for a key to be posted to you).
- The above process has been agreed with the SMC (see the above link for some further minor details for the SMC process).
- I have also suggested it to the FRCC who seem to be agreeable (August 2024) but this is a new process for them so it may evolve – if you make a booking let me know how it works out (Bryan ).
- Payment will be by bank transfer. The custodian will send you the bank details or they will be on the website.
- They will probably also suggest a reference to put on the transfer so that they can identify who the payment is from; if they do, please use it, it makes life much easier for the custodian and the club treasurer.
- The FRCC have different bank accounts for each hut, and will be unhappy if you make the transfer to the wrong account! So, if you do this for more than one hut make sure that you don’t just re-use the bank details for the previous hut.
We have not discussed any specific procedures with the Oread or Yorkshire clubs. If you want to use their huts just contact their hut custodian and maybe suggest the above procedure.
